Brief description of the proposed project The seafaring employees often face more difficult working conditions in the sea than the employees working on land. Their mental health is affected by the environment in which they live, often coupled with long working hours that contribute to stress, anxiety, loneliness, depression and suicide. The quality of the mental work environment is dependent on several well-known indicators which are the object for this study. Analysis of a ready Data set and a systematic literature review study.
Research questions How is:
  1. The seafarer welfare-mental health risk – from a literature study
  2. The results of the COPSQ questionnaire study n=325
  3. Levels of stress in the age- groups and job groups
Project objectives 1. Systematic literature review on seafarer mental health risk indicators

2. Analysis of ready data Copenhagen Psycho-social Questionnaire (COPSQ)

3. Compare results with workers from other industries

4. Give proposals for prevention based on the scientific literature


Project methodology

“               Systematic literature review (PRISMA)

“               Epidemiological, analysis of secondary data report (STROBE*)

“               The variables include demographic indicators on person, age, gender, nationality, types of ship, work areas on board, job-position, officer/non-officer, and the CoPSQ questions

Research population A sample of seafarers who answered the questionnaire
