Basic forms of an adjective[edit | edit source]

Using basic Adjectives:

Red:

  • あかい (akai, red.) Present tense. 
  • あかかった (akakatta, was red.) Past tense.

Examples using Kanji

  • それは 赤い です。(sore wa akai desu, that is red.)
  • これは 長い です。(kore wa nagai desu, this is long.)
  • それは 赤かった です。(sore wa akakatta desu, that was red.)
