This is the page for the International Collaborative Tele-Education Project. This project is a pilot online research seminar for student in countries outside the US, aiming to create opportunities for students around the world to engage in psychological research experience. This project is mentored by Eric A. Youngstrom, Ph.D. and led by the teaching fellow, Yen-Ling Chen, B.S.

Background[edit | edit source]

The United States has always been a leader in modern psychological science. However, there are significant barriers to dissemination of research-based knowledge to educational systems globally. Such barriers include lack of language proficiency, limited access to high-quality learning material or opportunities, and geographical barriers. Over the past decade, tele-education, an approach to enhancing student's knowledge and performance via the use of information and communication technologies, has become more and more popular. The current International Collaborative Tele-Education Project aims to develop an effective tele-education model to disseminate psychological science in college education.

How It Works[edit | edit source]

There were 5 Taiwanese students enrolled in the 2017 Fall project. To address language barriers, the teaching materials were presented in English, and supplemental discussion sessions were delivered in Mandarin, the primary language of the teaching fellow and Taiwanese students. The teaching fellow, who is fluent in both Mandarin and English, facilitated communication between students and the mentor. Additional discussion meeting was held in mid-semester and involved students in US, Canada, and South Korea. To address geographical barriers, the course used online communication platforms, including weekly video calls (Google Hangouts). To address barriers to resources, all materials were shared in cloud storage. Finished examples, source code, and other learning materials were posted on this page.

Students submitted their final projects as academic posters to professional conferences.
