VEREDA'RIUS. A government messenger, who carried the public dispatches in a light cart drawn by swift horses (veredi), which were stationed for relays along the public roads (Sidon. Ep. v. 7. Festus, s. Veredus. Suet. Aug. 49.), believed to be represented by the annexed example (Veredarius/1.1), from a bas-relief on the monument at Igel.
