2. Velamenta (ἱκετήρια). Objects borne in the hands by suppliants as a symbol of their condition; amongst which are included the olive-branch, caduceus, and woollen fillets, &c. Liv. xxiv. 30. Tac. Hist. i. 66. Ov. Met. xi. 278.
