VANGA. (Pallad. i. 43. 3.) A spade with a cross-bar above the blade to rest the foot upon, in order that it might be driven deep into the ground; still used in Italy, and retaining the same name, "la vanga." It was also termed BIPALIUM, under which an illustration is given.
