TIBI'CINA (αὐλητρίς). A female player on the pipes (tibiae), as represented by the annexed figure (Tibicina/1.1) from a painting of Herculaneum. (Mart. xiv. 64.) These were generally girls who went about playing for hire at dinner parties and festive entertainments. Plaut. Aul. ii. 4. 2. Most. iv. 3. 2. Stich. ii. 3. 56.
