THALASSI'TES (θαλασσίτης). Wine sunk under the sea in jars to ripen it (Plin. H. N. xiv. 10.); as opposed to vinum maris expers (Hor. Sat. ii. 8. 15.), the οἶνος ἀθάλασσος of the Greeks.
