SY'RINX (σῦριγξ). The Greek name for the pastoral pipe invented by Pan, and formed of reeds or canes of several unequal lengths joined together, as in the annexed example (Syrinx/1.1), from a statue found at Pompeii. By the Romans it was termed arundo or fistula.
