SOLDU'RII (εὐχωλιμαῖοι). Properly a Gallic word, employed by the ancient Gauls (Caes. B. G. iii. 22.) in a sense somewhat similar to our vassals or retainers, thereby intending to designate a body of men attached to some chieftain, whom they served with the utmost fidelity and devotion.
