NUP'TA (νύμφη). A bride; meaning, literally, a female who is covered with a veil (from nubere), because the Roman women enveloped themselves from head to foot in a large yellow-coloured veil at the wedding, as shown by the annexed figure (Nupta/1.1) of a bride, in a Roman bas-relief, representing a marriage ceremony.
