MAT'ERIS. A Celtic word, denoting a particular kind of javelin employed by the Belgae (Strabo, iv. 4. 3.), which had a broader head than usual (Hesych.); but respecting which nothing further is known. Liv. vii. 24. Caes. B. G. i. 26. Sisenn. ap. Non. s. v. p. 556.
