IMPIL'IA (ἐυπίλια, Hesych.). Thick and warm coverings for the feet, made of a felted fabric (Plin. H. N. xix. 10., and Ulp. Dig. 34. 2. 25., in which passage they are distinguished from fasciae crurales, and from pedules), but whether in the nature of stockings, socks, or shoes, there are not sufficient data to determine.
