FUSTUA'RIUM (ζυλοκοπία). A punishment inflicted upon soldiers for desertion or other serious offences; in which the offender was beaten to death with heavy sticks (fustes) laid on by his comrades. Liv. v. 6. Cic. Phil. iii. 6. Serv. ad Virg. Aen. vi. 825.
