CRUCIA'RIUS. A criminal executed upon the cross (crux) by hanging (Pet. Sat. 112. 5. cruciarii parentes detraxerunt pendentem); hence, a worthless fellow, like our gallows-bird. Apul. Met. x. p. 215.
