CORYCAE'UM. An apartment in the gymnasium and in large bathing establishments, such as the Roman Thermae, appropriated for playing a particular kind of game, which consisted in buffetting backwards and forwards a large sack (κώρυκος), filled with fig grains, olive husks, bran, or sand, suspended from the ceiling.
