CLITEL'LAE (κανθήλια). The pack-saddle upon which paniers were carried; and thence also a pair of panniers; whence only used in the plural number. (Hor. Sat. i. 5. 47. Phaedr. i. 15.) The illustration (Clitellae/1.1) is from an engraved chrystal in the Florentine Gallery.
