CINCIN'NUS (ἕλιξ). A ringlet, or long corkscrew curl of hair, like the twist of a fringe (Cic. Pis. 11.), or the tendril of a vine (Varro, R. R. i. 31. 4.), as in the example (Cincinnus/1.1), from the Column of Trajan. Though ringlets of this kind are natural to some few individuals, the term mostly implies that they were artificially produced with the curling-irons.
