CARI'NA (τρόπις). The keel, or lowest piece of timber in the framework of a ship, running the whole length from stem to stern, and serving as a foundation for the entire fabric (Cic. de Orat. iii. 46.); including also the false keel or "keelson." Liv. xxii. 20. Caes. B. G. iii. 13.
