CALIGA'TUS. Wearing the caliga, or soldier's shoe (Juv. Sat. iii. 322.), as seen in the last cut but one; and thence by implication, a common soldier (Suet. Aug. 25. Id. Vitell. 7.), because its use was peculiar to the rank and file.
