ARTOPTIC'IUS, sc. panis. A roll, cake, or small loaf of bread baked in a mould. (Plin. H. N. xviii. 27.) The example (Artopticius/1.1) is from an original, which was discovered with several others in a baker's shop at Pompeii, hardened but uninjured by the lapse of so many centuries.
