ACROTE'RIA (ἀκροτήρια). The pedestals placed on the summit and angles of a pediment for the purpose of supporting statues. (Vitruv. iii. 5. 12.) They were frequently made without bases or cornices, as in the illustration (Acroteria/1.1).
