Modified terminal cap

The terminal caps have been modified in order to fit the batteries in the possession of Howard Community College. The two batteries that came with the chair, for which the terminal caps were designed, are unusable due to a low charge. The three donated batteries have the same terminal design, which is often referred to as T881. The changes to the terminal cap takes advantage of the terminal cross holes to create the connection.

Attatching the Terminal Caps[edit | edit source]

Double check to make sure the connections are correct.
Make sure the connection is completely covered to avoid shorts and/or electrical burns.
The finished battery should resemble this.

Feed the bolt through the terminal post first, then the terminal cap. The head of the bolt will be kept in place by the terminal itself, while the nut will have enough space to tighten properly.

Make sure the wire from the terminal cap points to the interior of the battery, so that the battery will fit within the case. Also double check the wires: Red should connect to positive, black or white should attach to negative.

Encapsulate the connection with the rubber terminal cover. Secure in place by sliding the black zip tie over the end of the cover.

Before hooking up the battery cases, double check the connections. Check a million times, blow up very few times.

Carefully lower the battery into its case. DO NOT DROP THE BATTERY.

Arrange the wiring as needed to get the lid into place.

Maneuver the case onto the wheelchair. Make sure the first case is in front.

Removing the Terminal Caps[edit | edit source]

Do not cut the ziptie. It only needs to be slid out of the way.
Remove the nut and slip the terminal cap off of the end of the bolt.

Slip the ziptie loose from around the terminal cover. DO NOT CUT THE ZIPTIE. Simply slide it down the cable.

Lift the cover off; set aside.

Remove the nut. Keep the bolt still to avoid damaging the battery terminal.

Slide the bolt from the post and terminal cap.
