Problem Definition:[edit | edit source]

Before you start a project you need to find out what the client needs. If the client needs a pamphlet, and you give him a website he's going to be very upset. So the first step that you should take is to find out what the client needs.

After you know what the client needs (content requirements), and what the format requirements are you can move onto the next stage of the Grapic Design Process: Research.

Assignment 1: Leo's Lemon Farm Poster Project[edit | edit source]

A client wishes for you to produce a design piece that will promote and increase his business. Let's just say that the business is citrus agriculture (you may choose a different industy/business; citrus agriculture was chosen arbitrarily.)

The client would like a poster that he could send to clients and hang around the citrus orchard.

Answer the following:

What other questions would you ask this client before continuing with this project?

Examples of possible additional questions to ask the citrus grower[edit | edit source]

  • What kind of citrus?
  • Can I have some? (for research, sketching, photo shoot, etc.)
  • How much does it cost?
  • One orchard or more?
  • Where is it/them?
  • What characteristic distinguishes your citrus from others citrus?
  • Why is your citrus better?
  • How much citrus do you sell/produce?
  • Who do you sell your citrus to?
  • What do they do with it?
  • How do you ship it?
  • How do you crate or package it?
  • How long have you been in business?
  • Who are your competitors?
  • Why do you grow citrus?
  • How did you get started in the business?
  • Who are you trying to reach/communicate with?
  • What do you want to convey with this poster?
  • What kind of corporate image do you want to build?
