Design Research

This is the most important stage of the Graphic Design Process; the stage that forges the look and feel of your design.

First of all you will want to learn everything that you can about the client's product or service that you will be advertising in your design.

If your client sells lemons, then you need to learn all that you can about lemons, what season they're grown, what they look like, do they have big seeds, little seeds, no seeds, what color are they, what is their texture, do they grow on a tree, or do they grow in a bush. If you research correctly, by the end of your research you should be so sick of lemons that you'll never want to have lemonade again.

Next you have to choose what design styles/movement are you going to use in the composition. Are you going to use Swiss design, are you going to use a DaDa-ist feel?

Be sure to research Graphic design movements before you start the next phase of the design process.

You should also research/include different fonts and typefaces to include in your sketches and final composition.

Another thing that you need to research is the medium that you want to compose in. Do you want to use 4 color press on paper, or something more unique like a screen print on burlap to signify the lemons being shipped to the store in the burlap sacks (which you learned from your research of lemons.)

Assignment 2: Research

1. Find out all that you can about Leo's Lemons(or whatever client sells/or provides service for.)

2. Research famous Graphic Designers and famous Graphic Design movements in history. Then choose a few that represent your client or his product/service.

3. Research different mediums that you could use for this project, e.g. press v.s. screen printing v.s. whatever.
