Geographic Information System/Identify

From Wikiversity

The Identify tool lists features at specific locations on the map that are automatically generated from uploaded metadata. Instead of searching through dozens of layers in the table of contents, you can save a lot of time by using the identify tool (e.g. Don’t know where a certain city is? Easy, just open the identify tool and search for it. ArcGIS will zoom in on the area of interest). This tool is just as helpful if you want to know what features are where while looking at different parts of the map (e.g. addresses, zip codes, coordinates, road lengths, etc.). If you’re looking for an attribute connected to a certain feature, you can right-click the feature after opening the identify tool. If you’re overwhelmed by excess data in the frame, you can also customize the identify tool to list data applicable to you.
