Food Banks

From Wikiversity

The Food Bank of Northeast and Central Missouri started out as a class project at University of Missouri. In its first year 18,000 pounds of food were distributed. Now over 28 million pounds of food is distributed every year. This Food Bank is one of 14 in the nation. Many partnerships are used to contribute to this great amount of success. Large companies such as processors and manufacturers make generous donations along with local community groups such as places of worship and schools. Donations of food are used in food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and much more. Money donations can provide 12.5 meals for every dollar donated.
