Overview[edit | edit source]

Floyd L. Abernathy, a white man, was born and raised in Prattvllle, Alabama. He was born the son of the methodist preacher Thomas Y. Abernathy. Abernathy explains that all male members of the family have,"see-sawed back and forth between the ministry and medicine." Abernathy went to the Southern College at Greensboro and took two years of pre-med work. He planned on becoming a doctor, following the tradition that the male members in his family had set. He always took active part in school events. He finished his medical school studies in 1916, and left school to help my Uncle Will with his medical practice and drug store.
