Electronic Circuits/The BJT Modes
Appearance
Depending on the different bias conditions on the emitter-base Junction(EBJ) and the collector-base junction(CBJ), the following modes of operation of BJT are obtained:
Mode | EB junction | CB junction |
Cut-off | Reversed | Reversed |
Forward -Active | Forward | Reversed |
Reverse -Active | Reversed | Forward |
Saturation | Forward | Forward |
It is important to note that these rules apply for the PNP transistor as well. We don't care how the diode gets forward biased, merely that it is forward biased.
