Rayman Origins (Game)
[edit | edit source]Plot
[edit | edit source]Rayman and his friends were having a good nap along with the Bubble Dreamer, creator of the universe. Unfortunately, their collective snoring disturbs an old lady from the Land of the Livid Dead, who sends monsters and Darktoons to capture and imprison the Electoons and the Nymph sisters. This causes the Bubble Dreamer to have nightmares, which threatens the stability of the world. It’s up to Rayman and his friends, Globox, and some Teensy, with help from the Magician, to rescue the Lums and Nymphs and save the Glade of Dreams. Rayman and company eventually fight their way throughout the Glade to where it is revealed that the Magician has been using the rescued Lums to power his dark city of Moody Clouds. After defeating the Magician and re-rescuing the Lums, Rayman and the gang decide to take a nap.
Gameplay
[edit | edit source]Rayman Origins is a 2D side-scrolling platformer, like the first Rayman game, with some action and adventure and fantasy elements mixed in [1]. The player can choose between playing as Rayman, Gloxbox or some Teensys, and they can choose between single-player or Co-Op. Actual gameplay focuses on jumping, climbing, gliding and slapping (attacking) through obstacles and enemies in the player’s way throughout different levels. The main goal of each level is collect Lums and rescue the Electoons at the end of the level (as a bonus there are hidden Electoons in the level that the player can also rescue)[2]. Progressing through the game will unlock new areas in the Glade, which will hold new levels. There are a total of six areas, each with about five to eight levels, and one bonus area.
Development
[edit | edit source]Rayman Origins was developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and published by Ubisoft for multiple consoles. During the development of Beyond Good and Evil 2, the developers were experimenting with a modern 2D engine. The team of artist under creative director Michel Ancel, the lead designer of the original Rayman, decide to halt the work on the 3D BG&E in favor of a new 2D game: Rayman Origins[3].
