Micah Mahinay

[edit | edit source]

Micah Mahinay (born August 3, 1992) is an American Dj who is most known under the name “Noodles”[1]. Being known as “Noodles”, she gained more recognition when she was noticed by singer and songwriter Kehlani in 2014. Micah later became her on-tour DJ and has traveled across the world alongside Kehlani.

Early Life

[edit | edit source]

Mahinay was born in Hayward, California. She has grown up in the San Francisco Bay Area and is currently living in Los Angeles, California. She was raised in a filipino household with both of her parents. Her mom was a creative person and was interested in fashion which is where Micah’s interests in fashion stemmed from. As for her dad, he was a DJ who worked at night clubs in San Francisco. He was the one who taught her how to mix and spin when she was only 15 years old. [1] She was introduced to the night life when she was 16. In 2008 was when her father properly taught her how to mix and scratch on vinyl records.

As Micah became more involved in the night life, she attended more parties, clubs, and events. She started to meet more people and make new friends. When she started to DJ occasionally at these events, people would address her as "young ramen" referring to Top Ramen. As that nickname was arising, others addressed her as "young noodles" and from there "noodles" stuck to Micah as her stage name.

Education

[edit | edit source]

In 2006-2010, she attended James Logan High School in Union City, California. In 2010-2013, she went on to continue her education at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in San Francisco and earned a Bachelor's degree in Design and Visual Communications.[2]

Career

[edit | edit source]

She started as a Visual Merchandiser at American Apparel and Forever 21. Then became a Fashion Stylist for the company Tobi. She moved up as a Head Stylist for Karmaloop.com then paved her way onto becoming the Social Media Manager. She moved her experiences as a social media manager from there to Digital Media Management.[3]

Throughout her career, she has explored various job opportunities but during all of that, she remained as “Noodles” and would still DJ on the side whenever she got the chance. With a huge following on social media, she used that to bring together her fashion and music experience by playing at various parties, clubs, and music festivals. When playing at an event, Noodles will always cater to whoever her audience is. She will usually play what’s on the top billboard charts like modern-day rap. She is very into R&B classics from the 90’s to early 2000’s so she will most likely mix in some popular throwback songs. Before her sets, she’ll normally have a playlist in mind, but depending on the vibe she gets from the audience, she’s very quick to add in something new and can easily switch up the mood with different music styles.

She has been a full time DJ for more than six years now and has finally put in all that hard work and effort to go on her own headlining tour. She recently announced that her first headline tour "The Sayonara Tour" is only going to be in the United States, but she will work her way onto a world tour soon. While on tour, she will be accompanied by the new and upcoming artist, Jess Connelly, a singer and independent artist based in Manila, Philippines. The tour will start mid-October and will end first week of November. [4]
