The database system is collection of persistent data and programs to manipulate them. First we should differentiate between information, data and knowledge. Information: Data: It is information related to a particular subject. Knowledge: It is data that is operated upon to achieve particular results.

Database systems are more efficiently called Database Management Systems (DBMS) .

A database is a collection of interrelated data . A DBMS is a collection of database and set of programs that help us to create , update , modify and delete the data in databases .
