Common Admission Test (CAT) is conducted by the IIMs in India for admitting prospective students for MBA degrees.

  1. The examination is objective type.
  2. It is conducted online.
  3. The top ten percentile may expect a call from an IIM. Furthermore, there will be Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) or Group Discussion or both.
  4. In addition to IIMs, many management schools admit students through CAT.[1]

Test Duration and Pattern[edit | edit source]

Although the pattern of CAT exam is modified frequently. The following pattern was followed in CAT 2015. There will be three separately timed sections in the test. Once a section ends, candidates can no longer go back to it. The sections are (a) Verbal Ability (VA) (b) Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DI/LR) (c) Quantitative Ability (QA). The sections will have 34, 34, 32 questions respectively with a duration of 1 hour each. Including a 15-minute tutorial before the start of the test which candidates are advised to go through, the total duration of the test will be 3 hours.
