Chapter 2

Maharshi Shandilya said

Verse 1

"Then the faces of Lord Vishnu, Brahma and Mahadeva appeared. The arts of that great soul were self-evident."

Verse 2

"Their natures there are the faces of great fortune and beauty. They created the entire universe, including the demigods, human beings and rakshasas."

Verse 3

"The Nature, which is the result of the transformation of the imperishable Brahman. The transcendental form of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is transcendental, created the entire universe."

Verse 4

"From the sky came the thirty-six elements. The transcendental, the spiritual, and the supernatural."

Verse 5

"The supreme idol is the Self of Sound and the One Self of Form of Him. The universe, which is composed of names and forms, is equal to the Absolute Truth."

Verse 6

"From the sound, the oṁkāra manifested itself, and from it the three Vedas became clear. Then the three gods, the three worlds and the three times."

Verse 7

"The three stems of the Veda tree are black, Śona and white. Vultures pigeons and swans lived among them."

Verse 8

"Delusion is the action, the state, their conduct by itself. Such a result, however, is the result of their own nature."

Verse 9

"They arose in the original creation and were worshiped by the spark. Associating with these demigods, Chitra became sober even among the demigods."

Verse 10

"They shine by the part of the Vedas in accordance with the three modes. From that Supreme Personality of Godhead, the demons and human beings are separately born."

Verse 11

"Because the mode of goodness is pure, it illuminates Lord Vāsudeva. From devotion comes detachment and from transcendental knowledge."

Verse 12

"Some of them worship the Lord of the universe by their actions in accordance with the mode of goodness. Those who meditate on Him with firm devotion satisfy their spiritual master."

Verse 13

"The mantras and the brāhmaṇas are the priests and the oblations and the demigods Whatever one does, knowing that it is the Absolute Truth, is certainly Vaiṣṇava."

Verse 14

"While the great brāhmaṇas were thus engaged in their activities Lord Viṣṇu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is pleased with the entire universe."

Verse 15

"O infallible, infinite, Govinda, Nārāyaṇa, Janārdana! By remembering the Supreme Personality of Godhead, all actions are separated from one another."

Verse 16

"They performed sacrifices at the end of the moon, beginning with the fire sacrifice, with the components of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. A householder crosses the river with his own mind."

Verse 17

"The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Viṣṇu, is the enjoyer of sacrifices and the performer of sacrifices. In the past, the demigods and sages performed sacrifices."

Verse 18

"The Trinity, with the fire of Treta, was initiated at the mouth of Treta. By that process, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Yajña, created the best for the entire world."

Verse 19

"The division of varna and ashrama is the movement of actions in many ways. All the demigods worshiped Lord Hari and went to the other side of material existence."

Verse 20

"He was nonviolent and arrogant and did good to all. One whose mind is purified by the religious duties of his own caste and āśrama should enter into the Supreme Personality of Godhead."

Verse 21

"Or maybe it’s by your own power, but by the compassion of the great ones. By practicing even a little religious principles one becomes dear to the Supreme Personality of Godhead."

Verse 22

"After being purified by ritualistic ceremonies, the body of a human being becomes a field. Whatever action is performed there sprouts for the sake of fruition."

Verse 23

"By pious practice of the āśrama-dharma, the impurities of the innermost being are dispelled. That which is purified by hearing the Vedas and by remembering them attains to divine status."

Verse 24

"One should bathe in holy places, give charity, perform sacrifices to the forefathers and worship the demigods. By offering oblations to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, all the senses are purified."

Verse 25

"The soul is illuminated by detachment from knowledge and devotion. Thus, after hundreds of births, one attains the Absolute Truth."

Verse 26

"If they do not cross the path of smoke, they offer it there. If action is born of devotion itself is the destruction of action."

Verse 27

"It is like an oblation that is decomposed and is burnt by the wind Whatever is considered eternally inauspicious by the Supreme Personality of Godhead is considered inauspicious."

Verse 28

"Svayambhu and others attained perfection by action in the past. There is no law in the world of the true, nor is perfection established in this."

Verse 29

"What can be the perception of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is capable and independent? Who can deliver a sinner, what to speak of one who has done what is said?"

Verse 30

"Thus some of the creators have attained to action. With devotion in mind fixed in prostration he is the best of the gods."

Verse 31

"By his own uncaused religious intelligence, By this process one attains transcendental bliss and increases happiness."

Verse 32

"In whatever way it is beneficial to worship Lord Kṛṣṇa. By this process the living entity is liberated, for he is full of bliss."

Verse 33

"Thus the invalidity of tradition is seen by some in itself. They, however, resorted to the Yoga of devotion by various rituals."

Verse 34

"The pure souls, the conquered souls, worship according to the ordinance. Some of them chanted Vedic mantras and others mentioned in the Āgamas and both."

Verse 35

"Having obtained the ritual of initiation from the spiritual master, one should assume the body of the spiritual master. One should always worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead with faith and attention."

Verse 36

"It is purified by pranayama and other exercises and its sins are burnt away by meditation. By worshiping the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the mind attains supreme happiness."

Verse 37

"After washing himself in the morning and taking his bath he refrained from performing his rituals After purifying all living entities and restoring the vital air, the Supreme Personality of Godhead is purified."

Verse 38

"By various kinds of sacrifices he can become self-conscious. By worshiping her the perfection of worship and the increase of emotions are attained."

Verse 39

"Even though he is involved in constant and occasional activities day after day There will be wealth of equality and liberation from the ocean of death."
