Brain Based Devices

Although normal experiments with neural networks are limited in size, Dr. Edelman and his contemporaries at NSI claim to have developed a range of super network simulations that echo the function of whole organs of the brain. These simulations called Brain Based Devices, are the basis of a robot series called "Darwin", and are credited for a recent win in robot soccer against MIT. The idea is that a Brain-Based Device is a simulation of a specific organ and that by mixing and matching these organs, research can be done into how they work, and how they work together with the other modeled organs in an embodied robotic experiment.
