get into windows device manager in order to change the properties of the ethernet card

Some old wifi routers can not talk to modern ethernet cards. Modern ethernet cards want to negotiate with each other the best connection speeds. Old wifi router ethernet ports can not. The link light on the front of the router will blink, but the link light on the back of the PC will remain solid if this is the case. So newer PC's need to have their ethernet cards slowed down. This is done by typing "Device Manager" into the windows search box.

click on the Advanced Tab, then click on Link Speed & Duplex .. change this from auto to 10 Mbps Full Duplex
