The Society of Improvers in the Knowledge of Agriculture in Scotland was a group that came into existence in 1723 and disbanded around 1745. One of the first known members of this group was a man by the name of Robert Maxwell. This society mainly busied itself with spreading knowledge that allowed farmers in Scotland to better their agricultural practices and to make them better farmers over all. Not many publications were released by this society however and Maxwell in later years switched his attention over to a different society, Edinburgh Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Sciences, Manufactures, and Agriculture, which over time took the place of his original society, The Society of Improvers in the Knowledge of Agriculture in Scotland. By 1745 the roughly twenty year life span of this society had ended.
