The first type of dance was ballet. Louis xiv made dance popular in the 1600's. Louis xiv was called the Sun King, because he danced as Apollo. Before Ballet, dance was a way to communicate to each other and religious figures. For example in Egypt, some people danced to the goddess Sekhmet when mourning of a loss.
