[edit] Types of page protection

Custodian controls for page protection.

[edit] Semiprotection

Semiprotection of a page allows Wikiversity participants to edit the page if they edit by making use of a registered user account. Editors who are not logged in cannot edit pages that are semiprotected.

When a page is semiprotected, only users logged into an account can edit the page.

[edit] Full protection

When a page is fully protected most Wikiversity participants cannot edit the page. Custodians can still edit a protected page.

[edit] Cascading protection

The Cascading protection feature is for pages that also attract vandalism to related subpages and images.

[edit] Move protection

Pages can also be protected against having their names changes. This is often described as "move protection" since the contents of the page cannot be moved to a page with a new name by using the "move" button.

Pages protected from editing and moving are listed at Special:Protectedpages.

Creation protection menu.

[edit] Protect pages that do not exist

Some wiki pages are repeatedly created, vandalized and deleted. After deletion of such repeatedly vandalized pages they can be protected against creation. All wiki pages now have a "protect" button, including pages that were just deleted (see example, below). You can protect a page so as to allow page creation by only registered users or by only custodians (see image to the left). Pages that are protected form creation are listed at Special:Protectedtitles.
