Purpose of this template[edit source]

This template is a companion to Template:Using Wikiversity, and shares the task of keeping newcomers orientated as they delve through pages which familiarise them with Wikiversity. This template is more introduction-orientated than the other one, concentrating on what Wikiversity is/is not, its culture, mission, policies and so on. It is intended to be placed on any pages which introduce people to Wikiversity. --McCormack 09:46, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Prominence and aesthetics: this is deliberately intended to be a conspicuous and large template, not a small fold-away at the bottom of the page. Newcomers need big, bold orientation aids which stand out boldly on the pages they visit and enable them to jump quickly through all the pages they might need. Things like the images are an essential part of this, because they announce loudly to the newcomer: "look - this is the same helpful navigation aid you had on the last page you were on". --McCormack 09:48, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
