Topic development feedback[edit source]

The topic development has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing the chapter plan. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Topic development marks are available via UCLearn. Note that marks are based on what was available before the due date, whereas the comments may also be based on all material available at time of providing this feedback.

Title and sub-title[edit source]

  1. Excellent

User page[edit source]

  1. Excellent
  2. Consider linking to your eportfolio page and/or any other professional online profile such as LinkedIn. This is not required, but it can be useful to interlink your professional networks.

Social contribution[edit source]

  1. Excellent
  2. Summarised with direct link(s) to evidence.

Section headings[edit source]

  1. Promising 2-level heading structure.
  2. Avoid having sections with 1 sub-heading - use 0 or 2+ sub-headings.
  3. Move SDT up and include Autonomy, Competence, and Relatedness within it?

Key points[edit source]

  1. Very good development of key points, with relevant citations.
  2. Avoid providing too much background information. Briefly summarise generic concepts and provide internal wiki links to further information. Then focus most of the content on directly answering the core question(s) posed by the chapter sub-title.
  3. Overview - Consider adding:
    1. an image.
    2. an example or case study.
  4. Covers theory and research. But note that the key will be ensuring that as much literature as possible similar to Thøgersen-Ntoumani, and Ntoumanis (2007) is covered. The key section for this chapter will be "The relationship between psychological need satisfaction and body image". The lead-in sections are much less important. And the Overview and Conclusion are important.
  5. Use APA style for citations (e.g., do not include author initials).
  6. Include in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles and/or to other relevant book chapters.
  7. Consider including more examples/case studies.
  8. Conclusion (the most important section) hasn't been developed.

Image[edit source]

  1. An image (figure) is presented.
  2. Caption
    1. uses APA style.
    2. consider expanding the caption detail to explain more about the image and how it connects to key points being made in the main text.
  3. Cite each figure at least once in the main text.

References[edit source]

  1. Excellent
  2. Include dois where they are available

Resources[edit source]

  1. See also
    1. Excellent
  2. External links
    1. No need for help resources (outside of scope of chapter) but it could be useful to link to pages with specific info of interest
    2. Target an international audience; Australians only represent 0.33% of the world population
    3. Include source in brackets after link

Social Contribution[edit source]

Hey! I came across this website that discusses body image in a nice and simple way. I thought it could be a nice and easy website that could be use to educate school aged kids on your topic https://butterfly.org.au/eating-disorders/eating-disorders-explained/ --U3175502 (discusscontribs) 07:47, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for this! I'll add it to my external links! -- Maddison gray1 (discusscontribs) 08:24, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Chapter review and feedback[edit source]

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Chapter marks will be available later via UCLearn, along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall, this is a promising chapter but it insufficiently targets the specific topic.
  2. This chapter is over the maximum word count.
  3. There is too much general background material (contributing to the chapter being over the word count and insufficiently targetted at the topic (as specified by the sub-title questino). Instead, summarise and link to further information (such as other book chapters or Wikipedia articles), to allow this chapter to focus on the specific topic. The chapter starts effectively addressing the topic with the section "Psychological need satisfaction and body image".
  4. For additional feedback, see the following comments and these copyedits.

Theory[edit source]

  1. Relevant theories are selected and described, but only a basic description of the integration of PNs and BI is provided.
  2. There is too much emphasis on describing the background concepts of BI and PNs separately. There are other chapters and/or Wikipedia articles about these topics. So provide a summary, link to them, and then expand the material about the relationship between PNs and BI.

Research[edit source]

  1. Similar comments as for theory.
  2. There is insufficent coverage of research specifically about the relationship between PNs and BI (e.g., Brichacek et al.)
  3. When describing important research findings, consider including a bit more detail about the methodology and indicating the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  4. Greater emphasis on major reviews and/or meta-analyses would be helpful.

Written expression[edit source]

  1. Written expression
    1. Overall, the quality of written expression is very good
    2. Direct quotes should be embedded within sentences and paragraphs, rather than dumped holus-bolus. Even better, communicate the concept in your own words.
    3. Avoid directional referencing (e.g., "As previously mentioned"). Instead, use section linking.
    4. Use 3rd person perspective rather than 1st (e.g., "we") or 2nd person (e.g., "you")[1].
    5. The chapter would benefit from a more developed Overview and Conclusion, with clearer focus question(s) (Overview) and take-home self-help message for each focus question (Conclusion).
  2. Layout
    1. The chapter is reasonably well structured, with major sections using sub-sections. Reduce the prelim content; expand the PNs and BI content.
    2. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an introductory paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.
  3. Excellent use of in-text links.
  4. Limited use of case studies - this topic lends itself to richer use of case studies to illustrate key points about the relationship between PNs and BI.
  5. Good use of images; make sure to refer to each image at least once in the text.
  6. Basic use of feature boxes.
  7. Basic use of quizzes.
  8. Grammar
    1. Use serial commas[2] - it is part of APA style and generally recommended by grammaticists.
    2. Check and correct use of affect vs. effect.
  9. APA style
    1. Direct quotes need page numbers.
    2. Citations use correct APA style.
    3. References are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. Check and correct use of capitalisation.

Social contribution[edit source]

  1. ~8 logged social contributions across two platforms, some with direct links to evidence, some without direct links.
