"Ancient Greek"[edit source]

There are two types of Ancient Greek:

  • Koine (ie. marketplace Greek; also used in the Bible)
  • Classical Greek (ie. the Greek that the Classics are written in; Homer, Plato, that sort of stuff)

It should be mentioned which of the two is being taught

There are a lot more than two types of Ancient Greek. Attic Greek is the most frequently used (Plato, Aristotle, Euripides), but Homeric Greek and innumerable other dialects are commonly used. An discussion of Greek dialects should be an aspect of any course taught in Ancient Greek.69.116.7.112 03:28, 19 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
