I am currently writing a lot of material to be added to this page. I will try to include as much as has already been written but it will be very detailed and tailored towards those looking for an educational resource for learning purposes. I hope to also include external links to places where diabetics can seek advice and assistance. Donek (talk) - Go raibh mile maith agaibh 14:10, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed removal[edit source]

User:Donek has proposed removal of this page here: Wikiversity:Dealing with Medical Advice and also in an earlier blanking of this page. Specific discussion about this page probably should occur here. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 03:06, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2nd to 3rd person[edit source]

I've copyedited and tidied the content from 2nd to 3rd person. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 02:16, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A quiz could be good on this page. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 12:27, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely a Quiz Section would be very valuable,as I think it'll make the Reader much more aware of the Complications,Diabetes can cause and also help them realize that "Prevention is better than Cure"as there isn't a Permanent Remedy to Cure it,apart from from Prevention,which can only be brought about by "Change of Lifestyle",if one isn't a Diabetic and also make a Diabetic realize the Importance of the Amount of Role,which He/She will have to take in keeping/maintaining "Plasma Glucose Level"within the Normal Range constantly by following the Diabetologist's Advice of Self Monitoring Blood Glucose Level,Diet,Regular Physical Activity etc.,to Prevent Complications due to either Excessive/Deficient Serum Glucose Levels.

On the other hand such a Quiz also be very useful for Physicians/Specialists to keep themselves abreast of all the Latest Developments and keep their Knowledge Refreshed,as Diabetes Mellitus Page will keep Evolving always due to the amount Constant Research that's being done towards Treatment Modality and a Permanent Cure.I just hope such a Quiz gets is formatted.

Dear sir[edit source]

Dear Sir,

I do think it is very essential that the Classification System of Diabetes Mellitus(DM),should be included into this Knowledge Base,as due to more and more Research that's being carried out,Newer Types of DM are being Uncovered,involving Different Systems,exhibiting Different Signs/Symptoms,making the Older Classification System redundant.
The Newer Classification System could be as follows;
 DM-Type:1=Insulin Dependent or Juvenile Diabetes Mellitus,
 DM-Type:1.5 or LADA(Latent Auto-Immune Diabetes of Adults)=In which the Diabetic is Initially only on Oral Hypo-Glycemic Agents,but later Insulin also has to Added to Control Blood Sugar level and maintain in Euglycemic(Normal)Level,
 DM-Type:2=Non-Insulin Dependent/Insulin Resistant/Maturity On-Set Diabetes of Young(MODY)/Adult On-Set Diabetes,
 DM-Type:Gestational=Diabetes Mellitus related to Pregnancy,
 DM-Type:3=Diabetes Mellitus Associated with and Cause of Alzheimer's Disease,where the Brain Insulin Levels are Low,
 DM-Type(s):Due to Genetic Mutations of-> a)Genetic Defects of Beta Cell Function,
                                       -> b)Genetic Defects of Insulin Action,
                                       -> c)Genetic Alterations of Insulin Receptor=Lipoatrophic Diabetes Mellitus,
 DM-Type(s):Due to Endocrinopathies of Antagonizing Hormones-> a)Acromegaly,
                                                               b)Cushing's Syndrome,
                                                               c)Primary Aldosteronism,
 DM-Type(s):Related to Auto-Immune Endocrinopathies-> a)Grave's Disease,
                                                      b)Hashimoto's Thyroiditis,
                                                      c)Idiopathic Addison's Disease,
 DM-Types(s): Associated with Neoplasms-> a)Glucagonoma,
                                          b)Pheochromocytoma,
                                          c)Somatostatinoma,
 DM-Type:Caused by Beta-Cell Toxins->Rodenticide,
 DM-Type:Due to Pancreatic Disease->Chronic Pancreatitis due to-a)Alcoholism,
                                                                b)Malnutrition,

and of course I think,

 DM-Caused by STRESS FACTOR also as A separate Type should be Added in the Classification System,as it will help People understand the Futility of Stress and De-Stress themselves.

Thank You very much. -Laligammohan,August,03,2010.
