A number of factor may be suicidogenic. It is important to distinguish between factors that cause suicide and those that merely cause suicidality (suicidal thinking).

Platelet serotonin level[edit | edit source]

Platelet serotonine level might be used as potential periferal marker to detect risk of suicidal behaviour in PTSD patients.[1]

Drugs[edit | edit source]

When the government started warning about the suicide risk of antidepressants, suicide rates went up. One might speculate this is because people started using them for suicidogenic purposes.[2] It would seem that antidepressants are most likely to induce suicide in those who are under 25.[3]
