John lister is a gold miner from the 1800,s known for finding the first gold ever to be said publicly in Australia and in the world. Making the Australian gold rush. He helped find gold with the Tom brothers and Edward Hammond Hargraves in the Lewis creek ponds in NSW,Australia. Edward Hargraves ended up being feted as a hero and awarded $1000 for finding the gold but later in 1890 John Lister and the Tom brothers were given the credit for finding it by a selected committee of the NSW legislative assembly.
