Most people have better things to do than make all their own clothing. It's sometimes easier to get a free tshirt in college than to sew a button back on a shirt. Still, interviews, fancy dates, and other formal events will work their way into your life one way or another. It's good to be prepared to fix a button if you have a last minute date or interview to go to. It also looks better than staples or a blob of glue.
