Keshi

Casey Luong famously known online as Keshi is a songwriter, singer, vocalist, producer, and instrumentalist. Keshi is well known and has a big fanbase in the Asian community, and is famous and praised for his creative works in the R&B hip hop alternative lo-fi genre such as LIMBO, Beside You, and more.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Keshi was born in Houston, Texas on Nov 4, 1994, into a family of Vietnamese immigrants and grew up in a largely Asian community. Keshi first inspiration for music would be from the popular Nickelodeon sitcom Drake and Josh.[1] When he was 13 years old he started learning and teaching himself guitar using an old Vietnamese music book after getting it from his grandpa.[2] Keshi would first release music under his real name and had taught himself to create music by watching Youtube tutorials but his songs weren't getting much attention and he had felt that he was missing an important element in his music which caused him to be at odds against himself thinking that he wasn't good enough.[1] In high school Keshi would find many new artists that he took inspiration from such as Ed Sheeran, Jason Mraz, and John Mayer, but the most important artist that Keshi discovered was Frank Ocean's album Blonde released in 2016 which inspired Keshi to starting thinking about his music in a different way.[1] After being inspired he would create music under a new artist name called Keshi inspired by a friend's family member pronouncing his name Casey as Keshi.[1] Keshi would graduated from Stephen F, Austin High School and later got a nursing degree from the University of Texas.

Career[edit | edit source]

In the beginning of his career his parents did not see this as a good career path and they had felt that Keshi had wasted their efforts of leaving Vietnam in wartime to give Keshi a better future but after seeing Keshi popularity grow overtime they had accepted that this was a valid career path.[1] During a shift as a nurse, he broke down due to the stress of balancing music and a nursing job which made him realize he should be creating music and with the reassurance of his mom he would quit and start doing music full time.[1] After quitting his nursing job, Keshi would go to New York to sign a deal with Island Records[2] and later on Keshi would gain massive attention when he released his 2018 EP The Reaper , catching the attention of big K-pop stars such as BTS, Itzy, and NCT 127.[1] Keshi gets 3 million monthly listeners on Spotify with many of his songs being played millions of times by his fans around the world.[1] Keshi's album GABRIEL was able to become the Top New Artists Debut of 2022 with it being on the Top 20 Billboard 200 and the top 5 on the Billboard Top Album Sales charts.[3] With his huge popularity he was able to sellout 60 shows of his first tour HELL/HEAVEN in Europe, North America, Australia, and Asia.[4]

With Keshi's rise in fame, he was able to collaborate with big brands such as Microsoft, Amazon Music, and Fender.[4] He has also collaborated with big designer clothing companies such as Saint Laurent, Peter Do, Dion Lee, Private Policy, Fendi, and Barragan.[4]
