[edit] Crime rates and public opinion

Crime in Australia is rather common. About 30.1% of people are a victim of some crime each year in Australia. The most common crimes in Australia are burglaries, car thefts, and rape. Australia is rated 1st in both burglaries and car thefts. They are rated 5th for rape crimes. There could be a problem with the rape numbers, because some people in other places may have not reported their rapes or sexual assaults. Also, Tasmania is one of the world's largest producers of opium products, however strict controls are held over this area. The homicide rate is 302 people per year.[4] [5] I have found this data at Nationmaster.com and www.aic.gov.au (which is the Australian governments judiciary web page.[2]

[edit] Basic Formations of the Legal System

The Australian government is a Jurisprudence very similar to those like the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Malaysia.[6] Austrialia was colonized by the British, and there for follows many of its government attributes. There are two major parties and several other minor parties in the Australian government called a Commonwealth Parliament. Each state and territory also has it own individual governments.[7]
