Monticello is a mansion located in Charlottesville, Virginia. This mansion was Thomas Jefferson's home for 56 years until his death on July 4, 1826 at the age of 83. Not long after Jefferson's death, Jefferson's daughter sold the house to Uriah P. Levy, a naval officer. Levy later gave it to the people of the United States. By 1879, Jefferson M. Levy was in full ownership but he eventually sold it to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation. The mansion was opened to the public on 1954.

History[edit | edit source]
The Capitol was designed by Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd president of the USA, and first occupied by the Virginia General Assembly in 1788. The Confederate Congress was here to during the Civil War. The east and west wings were added around 1904 - 1906. The Capitol then reopened after a $104.5 million restoration and expansion project. They are also tours of the Capitol, even on the holidays.
