The Sandbox Server 0.5 was a project that aimed to provide technical infrastructure for content development projects and other learning activities. The server provided a number of services, such as messaging via IM and mailing lists, file hosting, media streaming and even a disposable MediaWiki installation. Wikiversity participants tested the trial services available on the server to see if they could make use of them as part of Wikiversity activities.
The Sandbox Server 0.5 at http://sandboxserver.org described below is currently offline. There are plans to create a new version soon. This page is now of historical interest only.

- install a (specialized) Database to use for specific learning and research projects
- set up a wiki for certain groups (e.g. vandals, see here)
Possible Uses
[edit source]- Run classes with participants in real-time using Jabber IM with discussion rooms. Has a number of advantages over IRC for scheduled-meeting style discussions.
- Learn HTML and webpage design and web development
- Sharing learning materials that are out of the scope of the MediaWiki
- Learn about and test Mediawiki features such as extensions.

When your file hosting account on the Sandbox Server has been created, your account should be listed at the bottom of this page. You can then upload files by clicking on the "files" link (see image to the right).
